29 April 2012 – Monthly eNews email sent

29 April, 11am – The monthly eNews email for April is sent. This month’s focus topic is on: Strategies – Strong Sectors, Indexes, GICS and Dow Theory.

It seems like a disparate list of topics, but when looking for strong sectors in which to invest, or strong stocks in strong sectors, it is very useful to understand the make-up of the different indexes in the market.  There are capitalisation indexes, and sector indexes (and more). Where can you see the list of these? Which stocks are in each?

Each listed company is assigned a GICS code – What is GICS? How useful is the GICS code? What does it really mean? We note that it does include a reference to the market sector of a stock.

And Dow Theory says something about the “market averages” (also see here)….  This is very much related and very useful to know.

Toolbox Members and registered Free Users should have received the monthly eNews email on this topic already. If not, you can see it for free in the eNews Archive (April edition).

Beware the sharks in the ocean!
